Goals

I've been thinking a lot about my upcoming surgery and what I hope to accomplish in 2011. I know I'll need a lot of rehabilitation and therapy to learn how to walk correctly. Walking with crutches for almost two years weakens hip muscles, which causes a limp because the body tries to compensate. The good thing about getting my knee replaced is that I will be able to tolerate harder exercises, like lunges and squats, to strengthen the muscles I need to walk. I can't wait. I want to be able to walk the kids home from school, walk around the track, walk my dogs, walk through the mall. Funny how small things most people take for granted can be someone else's biggest wish.

My goals for the next year, in no particular order are,

  • walk without a limp
  • walk wearing heels (surgeon said I'll have to wait 3 months after surgery)
  • ride a road bike on an actual road, not a trainer
  • swim a mile
  • do a dead hang pull up
  • lift some heavy weights
  • walk 5k at the Livestrong Austin event and ride a road bike at the biking event, even if it's only 10 miles
  • go on a family walk with the husband, kids and dogs
  • go on a bike ride with my husband
  • walk up and down the stairs with ease
  • take my kids on a bike ride
  • take the kids swimming by myself
  • fly to Winnipeg to visit my good friend Sharlene and keep up with her and her kids
  • go dancing with my husband (hint, hint)
  • lose some weight
What are your goals for 2011?

My goals are to do whatever you need to help you meet those goals.
