Here is my condensed list.
- What should I expect as far as pain? Will this be similar to my first surgery, since you are removing another cm of Femur?
- What will my scar look like? Are you going to reopen my current incision and extend it (removing scar tissue along the way) or will I get a brand new incision?
- What kind of pain relief will I have? Will I have the option for a nerve block?
- Do I keep my knee cap? I have read of 2 people having to have revisions on their knees to remove the kneecap within 5 years of the main surgery. Since I have a bone spur at the end of my right kneecap will this cause a problem or will this be removed during surgery?
- Will a Continuous Passive Motion (CPM) be used?
- How quickly will I be weight bearing? How much pain will I be in? When I had surgery #1, to remove my femur, it was extremely painful and I couldn't imagine wanting to put any weight on my leg.
- What should I expect during my hospital stay? How long will it be until I can sit up, get out of bed, bend my knee (if CPM isn't being used).
- Since I have had previous surgeries will I have a harder time getting back strength in my right quadricep?
- Will there be a possibility that I will need a blood transfusion? If so, can I donate my own blood?
- How long will I need to wear a brace?
- Will I have to be on blood thinners, again, and for how long? Last time I was on Lovenox my poor tummy was nothing but one big bruise.
- What kinds of activities can I do after my surgery? How soon? Specifically I would like to know:
- Walking, once I get my strength back is there a limit on to how much I can walk? For example if I decide to walk a marathon or want to do a 3 day/60 mile walk.
- When can I ride my road bike?
- Can I ride a horse? If yes, when?
- What type of weightlifting is okay.
- When can I get back to the gym and lift? Swim? Row?

Hey Brenda, I think those questions are great! I am glad you wrote them down...I would totally forget all of them. When I was in the hospital last year for 2 weeks...the Lovenox shots also caused rediculous bruising...I looked like a purple/blue/black tie dye shirt! As if they needed to put more holes in us..they were also checking my sugars every 3-4 hours, I ran out of belly room and fingers, LOL! I pray all your questions are answered and you get a date confirmed(still hoping for 1/11/11, LOL). I know it is hard to know what you have to go through all over again, but I know you are determined and will get back your strength as fast as possible!! Take care and hugs!
Keri
